WHY DO PEOPLE SEEK THERAPY?

People seek therapy for many reasons, such as:

•   Feeling stressed or overwhelmed by life's recent challenges.
•   Experiencing emotional pain or distress but feeling unable to change those emotions or feel
better.
•   Noticing repeating patterns in thinking or behavior that work against you.  Finding yourself in
similar states or situations but unsure why this happens or how to break the pattern.
•   Struggling in relationships with others (romantic partners, family, friends, or coworkers).
•   Feeling unable to let go of past issues — Feeling stuck and unable to move on.
•   Feeling confused or unable to decide about something important (Whether to leave a
relationship, confront someone, quit a job, etc.)
•   Feeling empty or lonely.
•   Feeling slowed down, distracted, or unproductive.
•   Problems in physical health, and your mental health is being affected or even making the
situation worse.
•   Noticing that you don’t feel as “alive” or vibrant as you once did, and you wish to regain this.
•   Having made a commitment to greater self awareness, betterment, or personal growth.

CAN THERAPY HELP ME?

Research shows that therapy helps most people who take part in it.  Among other things, therapy
can help decrease symptoms, mitigate or alleviate emotional distress, decrease physical
symptoms associated with stress, and improve overall sense of wellbeing.
Therapy can help by:

•   Providing constructive feedback from an expert with years of clinical training and experience
helping others with similar problems.
•    Providing a safe, non-judgmental environment in which to express oneself and receive support.
•    Providing perspective from an objective viewpoint from outside the circle of involved friends
and family.
•   Facilitating insight into the impact of earlier life experiences and their role in current behaviors
or problems.
•   Helping to generate new ideas about why a problem exists and forming new strategies for
change.
•   Increasing awareness of your options and facilitating realistic hope.
"The great thing
in this world is
not so much
where we are,
but in what
direction we are
moving."
