                                         FEES / INSURANCE

FEES
Please contact me about my current fee schedule and payment options.   Unless
arranged otherwise in advance, fees are due by the end of each therapy
session.   If you prefer, you may choose to pay for several sessions together in
advance.  Feel free to ask about billing options.

INSURANCE
At this time I do not accept insurance.  This means I do not bill insurance
companies or fill out their paperwork for billing and payment.  However, I am
happy to provide you with a “superbill” (a listing of all your visits and fees paid) if
you plan to seek reimbursement from your insurance provider yourself.

FAQ:  I have insurance.  Why should I consider going outside the plan?
Answer:    Treatment within insurance plans can indeed be helpful, but may not be
right for everyone.  Some reasons why people may choose private-pay therapy
over therapists in their plan might be:

•   Insurance and managed care companies often require providers to divulge
aspects of treatment in order to obtain reimbursement, leading to
decreased confidentiality.
•    Insurance companies may limit the types of treatment that are provided, or
may limit the number of sessions or duration of treatment.  Such limitations
may lead to termination of treatment before the client  feels ready.
•   Insurance companies may authorize “just enough” care to decrease current
symptoms, but possibly not enough to best decrease the chance of
recurrence/relapse.
•   3rd party payers generally require the patient to be given a psychiatric
diagnosis before approving ongoing treatment.  Clients may not want the
associated stigma of being diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder.
•   Some plans that allow a person to select their own doctor may actually
reimburse you for all or part of your out-of-pocket therapy expenses.  Be
sure to check your plan carefully and consult with your plan administrator.
•   Some people may be able to write off therapy costs as a medical expense
for tax purposes (be sure to check with your financial advisor first).
